OTHELLO to lead this year’s Summer Shakespeare Festival
    06/08/2006

The PPF Group in partnership with the Schok agency has organised the ninth annual Summer Shakespeare Festival. It will take place between June 21 and September 10 and will introduce a new adaptation of OTHELLO directed by Petr Kracik. The Bard’s famous tragedy will premiere at the Burgrave Palace of the Prague Castle on June 21. If the weather permits, there will be as many as 40 performances of Othello in Prague, four in Brno and another six in Bratislava, Slovakia. The Merchant of Venice, the Festival’s premiere play of 2005, will run for fourteen nights and there will be 21 nights with Twelfth Night..

The PPF Group has acted as the general partner of the Summer Shakespeare Festival for seven consecutive years. The Group both provides financial backing and contributes original ideas and initiatives that support the project’s growth and development. In addition to the Festival, there will be another cultural event at the Prague Castle supported by PPF – the third annual Maximum Photography exhibition introducing Jan Lukas’s photography cycle New York – Pompeii. There will be 26 large-format photographs (13 pairs of B/W and colour prints) posted on special glass walls and exhibited in the Castle’s Southern Gardens throughout the summer. The project, unique in its kind and size, will once again give the public a chance to see a selected portion of PPF’s photography collection.

“Czech photographer Jan Lukas celebrated his 90th birthday last year and is justly considered a legend of documentary photography. The exhibition is our way to pay a tribute to him,” says PPF’s spokeswoman Dita Fuchsová.
